Indonesia Earthquake Sends Locals In Fear; Tsunami Alert Issued

Everyone pray for our brothers & sisters in Indonesia. It’s being reported that a massive earthquake off Indonesia’s western coast triggered tsunami fears across the Indian Ocean today, sending residents in coastal cities fleeing to high ground in cars and on the backs of motorcycles.

As Yahoo! states via The Assiciated Press, a strong aftershock nearly three hours after the initial earthquake sparked a new wave of panic, with the local government issuing a fresh tsunami warning.

Just to make things clear, a tsunami watch means there is the potential for a tsunami, not that one is about to happen. Thailand’s National Disaster Warning Center issued an evacuation order to residents in six provinces along the country’s west coast, including the popular tourist destinations of Phuket, Krabi and Phang-Nga.

While the quake was felt in Dhaka, Bangladesh, no damage or causalities were reported. We’ll keep you updated as this story develops, and will continue to keep the people of Indonesia in our prayers.—Keenan Higgins
