Dubai Police Are Now Training To Ride Flying Motorbikes

Get ready for a flying police force in Dubai!

The Dubai police force is known for many things, one of those is getting to travel in some of the higher end vehicles. However, one thing tops it all and that's when a police force starts to train for flying motorcycles.

According to CNN, it's actually becoming a reality thanks to a startup called Hoversurf. The company apparently honored its deal that was signed in 2017 with Dubai Police and gave them the S3 2019 Hoverbike. Some officers have already started their training on the new vehicle. This means that the future for some Dubai police officers could be in the sky.

The general director of artificial intelligence for Dubai's Police force, Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, plans to have them out and about for the year 2020. But don't get your hopes up, he described it more as a first responder vehicle that can be used to get to difficult locations.

It might also take a while for the crews to be trained since the first two have just started and there's the fact that they've only really got one of the bikes. However, it's possible that the police force will order more in the coming months and years since they apparently have exclusive rights to make as many orders for it as they want.

The bikes are also referred to as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL). The name is pretty self-explanatory once you get to see a picture of the bike. It kind of looks like a giant drone that you can sit on.

A piece of tech like this is pretty cool to have but it's going to cost you since it comes in at $150,000. The part that saves money is that you supposedly wouldn't even need a pilot's license since it has met the Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

The main issue right now would be flight time, it seems to run on a battery which means, like a drone, it will only move in relatively short distances. However, in the future new, more advanced batteries will be available and this can ultimately increase flight times. Currently, in drone mode, it can last around forty minutes and with a pilot, it only lasts around ten to twenty-five minutes.
